1Introduction

Tangoo (the "App") is an all-in-one tool for mastering Japanese. With features like an offline-first dictionary, the ability to save words to lists, and interactive Flashcard Tests, Tangoo makes learning Japanese convenient and enjoyable. Premium users can unlock even more features, including advanced test options and a growing library of short stories.

The App is operated by Ruminski Labs OÜ, a private limited company registered in Estonia, at Sepapaja tn 6, 15551 Tallinn, Estonia ("Ruminski Labs", "Tangoo", "we", "us", or "our"). You can reach us at support@tangoo.dev.

These Terms and Conditions are here mainly for compliance and to protect Tangoo and its intellectual property. Tangoo does not sell your data, display ads, or engage in any practices that compromise your privacy. By using the app, you agree to these Terms and Conditions, so please read them carefully before diving in!

2Eligibility

Tangoo is designed for users aged 13 and older. By using Tangoo, you confirm that you meet this age requirement. If you are under the age of 18, you must have parental or guardian consent to purchase a Premium Subscription or access any paid features.

You agree to comply with all applicable laws in your jurisdiction while using Tangoo. If you are accessing the app from a region where its features are restricted or prohibited, it is your responsibility to ensure compliance with local regulations.

3User Accounts

Tangoo offers most of its features for free. However, creating an account provides additional benefits, including:

• Cloud Backups: Tangoo securely backs up your data, such as word lists and Spaced Repetition scores, so you can restore them on a new device.
• Premium Subscriptions: An account is required to purchase and access premium features, such as advanced tests and the Short Stories library.

You can create an account using either an email and password or a Google account. You are responsible for providing accurate and valid login information. As the authentication process is managed securely through Firebase, impersonation or providing false information is not permitted.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials. If you use an email and password, you may request a password reset if needed. For Google accounts, password recovery and access are managed through Google and are the user's responsibility. Tangoo is not liable for issues arising from forgotten Google account credentials.

Tangoo reserves the right to suspend or terminate your account without prior notice if you:

• Redistribute premium content, such as the Short Stories, without authorization.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise tamper with the app.
• Violate these Terms and Conditions in a way that compromises Tangoo's intellectual property or functionality.

By creating an account, you agree to use it in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.

4Subscription and Payments

Tangoo offers a single Premium Subscription tier, which unlocks advanced features such as:

• Access to a library of more than 50 Short Stories and Articles.
• Advanced Test options such as Multiple Choice question types.
• Access to N2 and N1 grammars.

Subscriptions are billed through the app store you downloaded Tangoo from (Google Play or the Apple App Store), and your subscription is managed through our subscription provider, RevenueCat. Prices may vary depending on your region and are displayed in your local currency at checkout.

Subscription Data and Verification

To verify and manage active subscriptions, Tangoo stores subscription-related data using Firestore and RevenueCat, including:

• purchaseDate – The date of purchase or renewal.
• purchaseToken – A unique identifier from the app store (Google Play or the App Store) used for verification.
• platform – The operating system (Android or iOS) used for purchase.
• subscriptionStatus – Whether the subscription is active or expired.

This data is processed through Firebase Cloud Functions and RevenueCat to ensure continued access to premium features. Tangoo does not store or process payment details, as all transactions are handled by the app store (Google Play or the Apple App Store).

Payment and Renewal

All payments are processed through your app store (Google Play or the Apple App Store). Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing cycle unless canceled. The renewal price will remain the same unless the app store notifies you of a change in advance.

Cancellation and Refunds

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your app store account settings — on Android via Google Play, and on iOS via Settings > your name > Subscriptions. Once canceled, you will retain access to Premium features until the end of the current billing cycle.

Tangoo does not process refunds directly. Refund requests are subject to the policies of the app store you purchased through: on Android, contact Google Play Support; on iOS, request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.

If you are a consumer in the EU/EEA, you have a statutory right of withdrawal for digital purchases; by choosing to start using paid digital content immediately, you may agree that this right is lost once the content is supplied. Nothing in these Terms limits your mandatory statutory consumer rights.

Managing Your Subscription

To manage your subscription, including cancellation or checking your renewal status, visit your app store account settings (Google Play on Android, or Settings > your name > Subscriptions on iOS). Tangoo does not manage or modify subscriptions directly, as these are handled by the app store.

Subscription Expiration & Access

If your subscription expires or is canceled, access to premium features will be revoked after the end of the current billing cycle. There is a grace period of up to 7 days, during which users will still be able to access premium features. If you resubscribe before your subscription expires, you will retain uninterrupted access. Subscription status is automatically checked through Firebase. In rare cases of verification delays, access may be temporarily restricted until revalidated.

Modifications to Subscription Features

Tangoo may add, remove, or modify premium features over time. Any major changes will be communicated via app updates or notifications. Continued use of the subscription after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Account Deletion & Subscription Impact

If you delete your Tangoo account, your subscription verification data will also be deleted, and you will immediately lose access to premium features. Canceling your subscription does not automatically delete your Tangoo account, and you can still use free features.

Purchase Restoration

Tangoo has a restore mechanism for premium purchases. A "Restore" button can be found under Settings / Premium. The main use cases for this are restoring premium after re-installing the app, or handling partial failures during premium purchase:

• When switching devices or re-installing the app, your premium subscription should be restored automatically when logging in with your user account. If this does not happen you can try using the restore mechanism.
• If there is a partial failure during the purchase process — e.g. the app store shows the purchase as successful but it was not processed correctly by Tangoo (for instance due to internet connection not working) — the restore mechanism should be able to re-validate the purchase.

5Content Usage

Tangoo provides tools and content designed to help users learn Japanese, including but not limited to the offline dictionary, word lists, Spaced Repetition tests, premium features such as the Short Stories library, and articles about Japanese culture. By using Tangoo, you agree to the following terms regarding content usage:

• Personal Use Only: All content provided within Tangoo is for your personal, non-commercial use. You may not use the app's content for commercial purposes, mass distribution, or in any manner that infringes on the rights of Tangoo or third parties.
• Prohibition of Redistribution: You may not copy, redistribute, reproduce, or resell any content from the app, including premium features like the Short Stories library, without prior written permission from Tangoo.
• User-Generated Content: Any feedback, suggestions, or content you submit through the app (e.g. in-app reviews or feature suggestions) may be used by Tangoo to improve its services or for marketing purposes. By submitting such content, you grant Tangoo a non-exclusive, royalty-free, and perpetual license to use it.
• Third-Party Licenses: Tangoo incorporates data from third-party sources, such as datasets under CC-BY licenses. For detailed acknowledgments, please refer to the "About" page within the app.
• Content Integrity: You may not modify, alter, or create derivative works from the app's content, including dictionary entries, articles, or premium materials, except as permitted by Tangoo.
• Educational Disclaimer: The Short Stories and articles provided in Tangoo are for educational purposes only. While we make every effort to ensure the originality and quality of the content, we do not guarantee the factual accuracy of articles or cultural explanations. Additionally, all characters and events depicted in Short Stories are fictional unless explicitly stated otherwise.

By using Tangoo, you agree to respect the intellectual property and licensing terms associated with its content and to use the app in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.

6Privacy

7Intellectual Property

Tangoo and all materials within the app, including but not limited to the app's design, features, and branding (such as the name "Tangoo" and any associated logos), are the property of Tangoo or licensed to Tangoo.

You agree not to:

• Use Tangoo's name, branding, or any materials in a way that suggests endorsement or association without prior permission.
• Copy, modify, or create derivative works from the app's interface, features, or content without authorization.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the app's source code, except as permitted by applicable law.

The inclusion of licensed third-party data (e.g., JMdict) does not grant users ownership or rights beyond those provided by the app's Terms and Conditions.

8Prohibited Activities

To ensure the safety, integrity, and fairness of Tangoo, you agree not to engage in any of the following prohibited activities:

• Reverse Engineering: Attempting to decompile, disassemble, or reverse-engineer any part of the app, including its code, features, or functionality.
• Sharing Login Credentials: Sharing your account credentials with others or allowing others to access premium features through your account.
• Misusing Premium Features: Redistributing, sharing, or reselling premium content, such as the Short Stories library, in any form without explicit permission.
• Tampering with Subscriptions: Manipulating or attempting to bypass the subscription system to gain unauthorized access to premium features.
• Scraping or Automated Tools: Using bots, scripts, or other automated tools to access, scrape, or extract data from Tangoo.
• Harmful Activities: Uploading viruses, malware, or any other harmful code that could compromise the app's security or functionality.
• Exploiting Vulnerabilities: Attempting to hack, exploit, or manipulate vulnerabilities in the app to gain unauthorized access, disrupt services, or harm other users.
• Unlawful Use: Using the app for illegal purposes or in violation of any applicable laws or regulations.
• Impersonation: Impersonating another person or entity while using Tangoo.

Engaging in any of these activities may result in the suspension or termination of your account without prior notice, as outlined in these Terms and Conditions. Tangoo reserves the right to pursue legal action if necessary.

9Disclaimer of Warranties

Tangoo is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. While we strive to ensure the app's functionality and content are accurate and reliable, we do not guarantee that the app will be free from errors, interruptions, or other issues. We also do not warrant that the app will meet your specific needs or expectations.

Your learning outcomes with Tangoo depend on your individual effort, consistency, and engagement. Tangoo provides tools and resources to support your Japanese language learning journey, but we cannot guarantee specific results or improvements.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Tangoo disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

10Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Tangoo, its developers, and any affiliated parties shall not be held liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the app. This includes, but is not limited to:

• App Malfunctions: Losses or damages caused by technical issues, errors, or interruptions in the app's functionality.
• Data Loss: Loss of user data, such as word lists, Spaced Repetition scores, or other saved information, due to technical failures, account issues, or unauthorized access.
• Learning Outcomes: Dissatisfaction with your language learning progress or results while using Tangoo.
• Third-Party Services: Issues related to third-party services used in the app, such as Google Play, the Apple App Store, or Firebase.

Tangoo's total liability for any claim related to your use of the app shall not exceed the amount paid by you, if any, for the Premium Subscription during the 12 months prior to the event giving rise to the claim.

By using Tangoo, you acknowledge that you do so at your own risk and agree that these limitations are reasonable and appropriate.

11Termination

Tangoo reserves the right to suspend or terminate your account at our sole discretion and without prior notice if:

• You violate these Terms and Conditions.
• You engage in prohibited activities, such as redistributing premium content or attempting to reverse-engineer the app.
• Your actions compromise the security, functionality, or integrity of Tangoo, its features, or its users.
• You use the app for illegal purposes or in a manner that violates applicable laws or regulations.

Upon termination of your account:

• Your access to premium features will be immediately revoked.
• Any user data stored in your account may be deleted, subject to applicable laws and regulations. Tangoo has no obligation to recover or restore this data after termination.
• If your termination is due to a violation of these Terms, you may forfeit any remaining subscription benefits without a refund.

If you wish to terminate your account voluntarily, you can do so directly in the app under Settings > Account. Alternatively, you can contact us at support@tangoo.dev. Note that upon voluntary termination, your user data may also be deleted and cannot be recovered.

12Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time to reflect changes in our app, services, or legal requirements. Any updates will be effective immediately upon being posted within the app or on our website.

If we make significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you, such as by displaying a notice in the app or sending an email to the address associated with your account (if applicable).

By continuing to use Tangoo after the updated Terms are posted, you agree to be bound by the revised Terms and Conditions.

13Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Estonia, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of Estonia have jurisdiction over any disputes arising out of or in connection with these Terms.

If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country where you live, and you may also be able to bring proceedings in your local courts. If you are accessing Tangoo from outside Estonia, you are responsible for ensuring your use of the app complies with the laws of your jurisdiction.

14Apple and Google Store Terms

You also agree to the applicable Apple App Store and Google Play terms. The following applies where you obtained the App from the Apple App Store: these Terms are between you and Ruminski Labs OÜ only, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the App or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App. Apple is not responsible for any product warranties or for addressing any claims relating to the App (including product-liability, legal/regulatory, or intellectual-property claims). Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo, and that you are not on any U.S. Government restricted-parties list.
